A good tile job begins with using the right materials, and when tiling onto a floor in a wet area, you may want to consider the use of Hardibacker, Richard Williams stock two different thickness of Hardibacker boards.
Hardibacker is a 6mm thick cement backerboard for tile and stone, to be used as an alternative to plywood for tiling on floors and countertops. The board is water-resistant and won’t rot, swell or warp when exposed to moisture. The MouldBlock Teachnology protects the job from dangerous mould growth. The boards can hold 100kg per m2, while conventional plasterboards claim to hold up to 32kg per m2. No primer is required when using Hardibacker and it is easy to score and snap. It’s appropriate for all types of tile, including vinyl, ceramic and natural stone and can also be installed in conjunction with underfloor heating.
The 12mm option of Hardibacker board has similar properties to the 6mm, but is more suited for fastening directly to the wooden frame of a wall. The 12mm version is a non-combustible board and carries an A1 fire rating. It can also be used on the floor when additional height is needed, behind a boiler, or even behind a multi-fuel or log burning stove.
Both styles of board measure 1200 x 800 x 6mm. If you require more information on Hardibacker or wish to discuss your stock and delivery requirements, please contact your local branch at Llandudno Junction or Ruthin North Wales.
